Here is an eBay auction for an "83OT". This model is missing from my list, and I'd like confirmation that there really was an 83ot before I pencil it in. Anyone have more info, such as the model name?

Often when I see unknown models on eBay I think the seller is mis-reading the tang stamp. But in this case the seller has provided good photos of the stamp.

Best Wishes,
Bob

Just to clarify, I am not the seller, I have fo affiliation with the seller, and I do not intend to bid on the auction. This is purely an educational post.

Actually, it's a 33OT

I've seen both the 33OT and 34OT with tang stamps that look at lot like 83OT and 84OT.

Thanks for the quick answer. I figured either there was a very simple explanation, or it would be one of those questions that never gets answered.

Best Wishes,
Bob

Might the seller...or someone else...have scratched in the left side of that 8 (er, 3) to make it RARE, RARE!!.....but left it for our imagination and all that?

Just a thought.

Looks like a 33OT to me. I tried to Google it and only came up with similiar pictures of a 33OT look alike.
Maybe they made a bunch of 33's for a company and changed it to 83 so as not to confuse it with the standard one? One problem with that theory is that you would think a company would want a different name badge on it at least.

I've noticed this phenomenon too. I don't think it's a nefarious plot or anything. My take is that sometimes the stamp goes deep, the "3" is pretty closed anyway, and it really looks like an "8". You have to stare at it with a magnifying glass to see what's going on. I've noticed a lot of 83, 84, and 88s -- all just routine misreadings. I've seen both 33 and 98 misread as 88.

I have an 83OT and it has a cutout in the handle for your thumb to get to the nail pull.
