Some of you may remember the last time we crowd sourced the authenticity of a suspicious looking new model Buck knife. Everyone ruled it a fake. Until a Canadian forum member posted. The target folder then turned out to be a recycled model number and a Canadian Tire special. Just shows you how wrong you can be. I can't find this on any of the China sites, Canadian Tire site, no hits on google or bing, only one vendor on the auction site and they are not responsive to inquiry. Anyone brave, crazy brave, foolish enough to make a ruling or know anything about this liner lock folding tanto and part Michelin man?

Well for us to be 100% sure we would need someone from Buck to make a ruling on it's authenticity. If I were to have a stab at it I would rule it a fake. Nothing about it says Buck to me.

I also really hope Buck did not make this knife.

"No" is my guess as well.

If this were a 2015 knife, it would have surfaced by now, somewhere.

I don't know of any plastic handled Bucks with a flat relief where the brand can be stamped. Without digging too far, I think all plastic/polymer handle Bucks have "Buck" formed in the mold, or have a shield attached (handle only).

The flat relief tells me it's a "insert popular brand here"...

I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. I'd stay away from it.

Of course, only someone at Buck would be a reliable source.

Send a photo with info to Joe Houser. He is getting rid of fake Buck Knives to try to save folks from getting ripped off!

I checked the 2016 Catalog price list and there is no model number listed for that knife!

Looks fake to me, man. I have been cruising buck for a long time, and have never seen something like that.

One question has been answered, sort of, where the vendor got it, "your mom" they just responded to my inquiry. That only adds to the issue as she has been gone these many years bless her soul and she was never an authorized dealer let alone a knife owner...

Update: Vendor pulled item, for now. Hadn't seen another like this so I needed a second point of proof and a confession was it. Thank you members for your kind assistance with this one. You are all right.

I was at Cabela's in PA this weekend, and I could have sworn I saw this knife in a double knife tin. It was a large and small version and was copper colored like this, but I forgot to take a picture.

Thank you for the tip. I will visit that big box store today and see if I can speak with the cutlery mngr. with a photo and model # in hand.

Visited the terrific local Cabelas inspected the shelves carefully and spoke with the capable representative at length. Gave him the pic you see here in the thread. No joy. No such item seen on display. No such model number seen in system. I sent pics to Post Falls asking about authenticity.

Update: "Just found out this was an exclusive that we did for Bass Pro. It came in a combo set with a model 849." Joe Houser.

Wow, thanks for the update ! I could have sworn I saw it at Cabelas but I was also at Bass Pro Shops that day so I must have been confused. They're both pretty close to each other in Pennsylvania.
