Does anyone know of anywhere that is selling 8670 in round or square bar form. Perhaps even flat bar that is thicker than 3/8". I see njsb sells it in 3/8" thickness but none is available on the sight, calling might be different. 3/8" could be forged into something thicker but would be nice to have it already available in something thicker.

I called NJSB and they do not nor have they ever carried it in round or square bar form. They do usually carry it in the 3/8" flat bar as listed on the site but they are out of stock at the moment. It looks like unless one was to place a large order for round or square then forging the 3/8" flat into a fatter shape would be the option at the moment. That basically makes it not a great choice then if others like 1080 or 5160 are readily available in other shapes and thicknesses.

I would not get stuck on one specific steel. Find a source for the steel thickness you want in low alloys and then make kick ass.

Seedy Lot, I want to do some testing with it in different forms for different reasons. I have almost every low alloy steel in flat form for testing but larger sections in rounds or square I only have 1080, 5160, o1, 52100, w1, 1055, 6150. I wanted something with some nickel. Devin, I forget about L6 and can get it in round bar form so I will try some of that. L6 in other tests I have read about seems to act differently than it seems it would. It is also more expensive by the pound than something like 8670 but it does have more of that pricey nickel in it and carries the unnecessary for me tool steel standards but it will surely give me some form of a standard. When the 3/8" 8670 comes available I will also get some of that and upset it into a thicker cross section. Thanks guys.
