I have been eyeballing this steel for a while. I started out making knives from recycled L-6, and they were TOUGH. I am going to order some of this and use it in making some larger projects. I continue to plan on using 1095 for 5 inch blades and under as the carbon content is higher. The carbon content ranges from .64-74 which should give more carbon in the blade than 5160 at .60.
Here are the specs from admiral 8679m
C .64-74 Mn .40-.60 Si .25 Ni .70-1.0 Mo .05-.10

Here is 5160 from Admiral
C .60 Mn .85 P .035 max S. .040 max

here is 1095

C. .90-1.04 Mn.60-.90

L6 is some of the most insanely tough steel (that you can still sharpen) that I have ever seen! I love it when makers experiment with new materials--it's always interesting
