Hi, I have a question regarding this model. I just bought one and have a question about blade lockup. When the blade is open the lock is rock solid and fine with no play, but when the blade is closed it wiggles easily and hits the liner lock. Is this a common thing with these? If so, is there any way to tighten it or is it just suppose to be. Thanks!

I don't know about the 880, but that is a norm for nearly all the 110's I have.

I have a Buck Mini Strider, when closed the blade is centered, it does not wiggle at all, is quite solid. In fact I have removed the pocket clip and carry it loose in my front pocket, You might want to tighten (just slightly) the pivot screw and see if that helps.

A quick check of the folders that are within my reach right now (eight Buck and one Cold Steel) results in three of the eight with zero wiggle.

They are:
ChiBuck Tempest 198
MyMayo 172
112<FG (frickin' impressively rock solid)

So, while none are the 880, you can try to tighten the pivot, but be careful. I have a 279 Alpha folder that slops to the point of annoying (unike the others that wiggle just a bit). I tightened that puppy to the point where I almost stripped the Torx head and it remained just as loose...time to send it in.

I have the 881T, and does exactly what yours is doing. To be honest, I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't read this thread. I don't know if tightening the pivot screw with fix this though. Hmmm...:(

When it's open, the lock is solid but how's the side to side play? Washers maybe? Or what about the other screws that hold the scales and liners together? In any case, if it's not something you can easily fix, don't do anything that might make it worse. Contact Buck, they will take care of you.

Mine is loose like yours when closed, I just checked. It is an new Idaho knife as are two others that have loose blades when open...a 110 and a 501. I know I can send them back but it's a drag. Hopefully it's not a quality control issue with the new plant. Great knives other than that.

Thanks for the responses. It's nice and tight and there is zero blade play, wiggle, lock is solid. So I'm considering not sending it in because of that.

Yeah, if it was doing the jello gig when opened I'd send it in for a boob job to firm it up.
Since it locks tight when opened I'd be okay with that too. But the Alpha 279 I have slops when open by about 1/8th of a inch. Doesn't seem like much when you type it "1/8".
I'm just too lazy to send it in and it gives me something to whine about I guess. Cause I know Buck would fix it.
Maybe tomorrow...

 ...That silly "1/8th" inch would drive me NUTS...not only is it 1/8th inch...it's .125 thousandths of an inch...Just think about that, not 10 or 27...it's ONE HUNDRED and TWENTY FIVE of those things... ...phewww...that's more than I'm emotionally able to cope with...  :p

Plaid Shirt DarrylS...
Actually, under stress, it is more like a 1/4 inch at the tip. Do that math on that Rain Man.
Looking for Larry and your other brother, Larry...:)

  ...Oh LORDY...I know a few people would be takin' a center-punch to that thing real quick...Best send her into Buck for to be "stiffened" up a bit...:D :D

Thanks everyone for the replies, it will be going with me for 2 months of training, hopefully it holds up. The most annoying thing is with one handed openings the blade strikes the liner!
