I know these were made as a limited "Build out" from Buck awhile back but, can anyone tell me if they had the BOS heat treatment? I know some folks never cared much for these, I've heard them referred to as "putting butter on your toast with a chainsaw" but, I dunno, I like these big Buck Striders but why do I always think of the movie "Slingblade" when I handle one of them...?

"I like them French fried taters.....":D

My 890BKXSPX-B, which is a build out knife does not have the BOS stamp. It is marked BUCK, USA. My 890650BO-B is also samped the same way. My 889BO-B does have the Bos stamp. All three knifes were purchased at the June 09 factory sale, all have satin uncoated blades, and all were factory build outs. They are nice knives for my collection but are not great fighting knives. They just dont balance right IMO. The Strider knife models with that handle style such as the EB-T, EBL-S and EBL-T use a shorter blade and handle much better. Same for the 888 Solution. Strider uses a different grip style for their blades over 5". During my recent (Oct 08-Aug 09) all expenses paid Army vacation to Iraq I carried and extensively used 4 Strider fixed blades, a EB-T, EBL-T, VB, and WB.

I'm not entirely sure about the Stider/Bucks, but the BOS stamp is typically used on the premium steels. The BOS stamp is not used on 420HC. My understanding is that Paul Bos oversees ALL heat treating of the various steels.

Thanks 2TonyB, what type of steel did they use instead of the 420HC? I have one of these with the BOS stamp on it...just curious.
