I just purchased a 897UH, and noticed a number inside the knife. The number is E1539. Can anyone tell me the significance of the serial #'s on these knives?

If you have a Schrade Uncle Henry with a serial number in the liner, it was used for warranty replacement if you lost the knife you could get it replaced. Here is a document from the original Uncle Henry 897UH which came in a hinged box.

You can find the serial number inside the older 897UH, 885UH, and 285UH, LB7, and a few of the fixed blades had them too. Yours starting with E, indicates a "newer" serial number (A, B, C, D, E). Somewhere there was a #1. My oldest 897UH is in the 1200 range. They quit doing serial numbers on the folders in the 1970's. However, Schrade USA kept the replacement policy on the Uncle Henry patterns right up to the end.

The Codger is our serial number memory bank and has some good documents, research and a variety of serial number tidbits.
