8a stainless steel????

8A is another name for AUS8 steel.It is a Japanese steel name for 440B.- .70-.75%C and 13-14%Cr.

I have had good results with AUS8A. It takes a good sharp edge, and holds it fairly well. Its not a super steel, but definately far from pot steel.

Pretty good description, with one semi important thing you left out. AUS8A contains a little bit of Vanadium, while 440B does not. A little Vanadium goes a long way, IMHO. Myself, I like 8A, and I consider myself somewhat of a steel snob. It takes a great edge, holds it reasonably long, all the while being pretty easy to sharpen.
