Does anybody have the heat treat - or at least the temper tables for 8A steel. I have a customer requesting I cryo a few 'kit' blades - and of course that requires a follow up temper. I could 'sneak up on it' starting at 300 or so and RHC testing it each try - but if it turns out to have an 800 degree temper I'll be at it for weeks.

Any guidance appreciated.

Thanks

Rob!

That's probably AUS-8A steel . What was the original HT ? Cryo after the fact probably won't help.

The original was in a Jantz Kit - and all we know is that cryo was not done. I understand that cryo is best done at the time of HT but I presumed that there would still be some transformation available later - of course with the understanding that another temper would be required. Thanks for the quick response Mete. First principle is "do no harm". Can you help me there?:D

Thanks

You only have to temper the new martensite formed from the retained austenite.Just temper at 400 F, that should be fine for that steel.
