8OT made me sad they are gone.

I have worked with an old boy building houses since the late seventies and he always used a Case four blade knife something like a stockman. Well this week we were working and I looked on the box he’s working on and WOW 8OT. Guess you’re a knife nut when knifes get your attention rather than any thing else. He let me see it and he said it would not hold an edge compared to his old Case but he had worn it out. First imported Old Timer I have seen and what a bummer they are gone you could see it with your eyes closed it was junk. Well I think I can get him a 34OT from the feed store I’m going to go check.

The original 8OT was one of my favorites. The new models don't come close to the older ones. I have all but lost hope for finding an original locally. Every time I walk into an old hardware or feed store and I see the Old Timers in the case, I get all excited just to find the new junk that replaced them.

There are still some real ones to be found on e-bay at reasonable prices. Just look for the ones that give a clear photo of the stamp.

I still stop in and check the hardware stores in my area for some Old Timers that may still be laying around. Ironically, I haven't seen one that carries the new Chi-Schrades, most have Bucks, Case and some SAK's. The store owners I've spoken to say they won't carry the imported junk, they don't like them anymore then we do.

Yes, indeed. They're all over ebay and often go for a song. I recently got a 34, a 33 and the single-blade trapper with the liner lock (can't remember the number on that one) - one unused and two gently used - for a grand total of about $30.

You might suggest he pick up a new Case in carbon steel (CV, the Case folks call it).
