I was able to snag an 8OT with a match strike pull. I remember someone on here saying the Schrade 881 stopped using the match strike somewhere in the mid 70's, I think. When would the last year of 8OT's been made with it?

I would guess just about the same, since, after all, they are the exact same blades, just sent through a different stamp.

I have never seen an "NY" stamp on a match-strike 881
All the match-strike 881's I have, are all stamped Walden.
My 10 cents worth at a date is 1972 to mid 1973.

Wouldn't it still be a Walden if from '72? I have an 881Y from 1975, and it has the smooth long pull.

Perhaps mine was made during a transition time with stamping?

Looks like a buncha apply orangy wandery banter going on here. The OP knife was made in that exact configuration for awhile after the mid-1973 corporate shake-up and change-over of branding, stamping, etc. Match-strike- yes. Tang stamp- yes. That exact knife- yes. Many knives. How long? I don't know. Six months? Two years? I don't know. I don't understand all the confused talk about Walden, 881s, etc. I am trying to address the original question in the original post above.

Your spot on Codger. However, my every day user is an 881 Walden.
I found it in Sydney Australia in 1974. I believe it was made in or before 1973.
The first post is a "N.Y. 8OT", Now show me an 881 with the same "N.Y." stamp.
The paperwork for these two 935s says January 1973. $4.65 each.

I looked at 30 knives in my collection to find these two matching tang stamps.
I believe they were made after 1973.

This Old Timer has a Walden 881 Blade.

Thanks guys! In the end it really doesn't matter, but as I acquire more knives the changes in various stamps and blades becomes a bit more interesting. I do like this one better than the the other 8OT I have that just has the USA stamp. The edges of the handle are more rounded like the 881's I have and I prefer that.

Good afternoon. I have an 881 and an 881Y with a match-strike pulls. Both are tang stamped Schrade over N.Y. U.S.A. and on back either 881 or 881Y. I tried to attach a picture but was too large to transfer. I will try and see if I can reduce size to import this afternoon.

Just realized both are Schrade not Schrade Waldens.

The original question in this post, is a simple one! No one has the answer.
I believe production stopped on the 881 with the match-strike pull, before the 8OT.
Maybe, all the match-strike blade went to the "Old Timer 8OTs"and the "935 Old Timers", because the 8OT and 935 knives were out-selling the 881s.
As I have never seen an 881 with a match-strike pull, with out the "WALDEN" stamp, maybe the "Walden" 881s were selling long after the 8OT match-strike knives.
