Have an 8ot that has less than optimum walk and talk, nothing anywhere near as impressive as the brisk snap from my beloved 885uh. Just wondering if this is common.

I have a new 8OT with plenty of snap. I also have a really used, beat up, well loved 8OT that opens and closes really easy. So I guess it depends on the knife.
IMHO.

I opened up the blades and blasted the knife with WD40 last night and it helped some. Too bad. It's the best cutter I've got.

yobbos1,
Just a thought here....try the WD40 again....work the action on all blades 15-20 times....WD40 again... (you should be doing the backstroke in the stuff by now!)....Then blow it out through the backsprings with a compressor, some canned air, or even a hair dryer on high/strong as a last resort.
No guarantee unfortunately, but more than once, I've found slivers of brass lodged between the liners and the backsprings that slow the action until you work them out.
May be worth a try. Good luck.

P.S.
When you get finished, don't forget to lube the joints with something like Break Free, Militec, or mineral oil if you cut/use it for food.

I've blown junk out of knife joints that most people won't believe. Got a bag of seconds from SMKW, and one knife had the WORST snap of any knife I've ever owned. Hosed with WD40, blew it out with compressed air, and it now snaps sweet and clear. :) Took an incredible amount of crap out.

Thanks for the heads up! I cleaned it with WD40 a couple more times and more crap DID come out. It ain't perfect but it's much better. Thanks again.
