This blade has been a work in progress for almost two years, being picked up and put down countless times, until ideas or inspiration returned me to it. It has gone through so many design changes, detail alterations, refinishes and modifications that it almost doesn't resemble how it began.
The blade is 9-1/2" long, W2 steel that's .240" thick at the ricasso, and tapers all the way from there to the tip. The spine is beveled. The wenge handle has been oil finished and wrapped in gold silk tsukaito, with a tsuru (two cranes) menuki.
The wrought iron guard is from an old cistern, was left in it's as-found condition, and has been blackened - personally, I think it makes the knife. The front of it is wonderfully crunchy and rugged, and serves as a nice contrast to the polish of the blade. My photography skills simply won't allow me to capture the hamon, so I'll try to snap a quick video and post it later.
Thanks for looking!
