Is the 'Modified INFI' from the older Basic line of Busses the same or similar to the SR-101 Steel used by Swamp Rat Knives, or are they totally different from each other? Info on each would be great, as well as how they compare to INFI used by Busse now.

I'm looking into getting a 9 1/2" blade user but I'm trying to get a good balance between cost and quality. I'm thinking about the Basic 9 but i would like to know how it compares to the beast known as the BM-E or even Swamp Rat Knives- Battle Rat.

I can try to answer part of your question.

Is Mod-INFI the same as SR101?
No they are completely different steels, however, the performance of both is very high.

You really can't go wrong with any of the knives you've mentioned. It will probably come down to personal preference and what you want to spend.

Hmm, well how about the stainless qualities (or lack of) of mod-INFI and SR101?

I love my SHBM and my BM-E. My Basic 9 has a slimmer blade and is easier to carry but it sacrifices in the chopping dept a little bit. General utility goes to my B9, beater-BM-E, survival- trusty old SHBM. Just my .02 worth.
