18 inch 2 pound AK by Sher. Made to do the job for 100 years. 7/16" thick, 2.25" wide. Good hard edge near 60 Rc. Could stand a good sharpening to get it to razor sharp. All this rig needs to get it to HI top quality is polishing. At $75 an UBBB. This one and two others available -- two wood and one horn handle.

20" 3 pounds of dynamite AK by Sher. 1/2" thick, 2.6 wide. Same story as above. $100 delivered. Two available. This one and an identical twin.

20 inch 25 ounce Sirupati by the old master. He has a hard time with these village style khukuris because he wants to "finish" the job. Only problem with entire rig is a couple of small cracks in wood handle which might close with oil treatment. Take it for $60 delivered.

Email.

Good.

I was sure thinking hard on that sirupati.

But I really, really did not -need- it.

Alas, finger crossing didn't work :( . Uncle Bill tells me it was gone 5 mins before he got my e-mail. It's all for the best though, I couldn't really afford it anyway, that's why I typed out my message so slow. I figured if it was meant to be it would still be waiting for me. There'll be other blems and UBBB's, at least that's what I tell myself to get through the week. :)

I'm really considering that 18in for my first khuk. I had decided on a Chiruwa AK, but at $145 is it twice the knife as this? Any thoughts on the Villagers vs the regular stuff? I really prefer buying quality items but I'm also a sucker for a good deal.

Also, horn or wood? Which is better or is it a preference thing?

Thanks.

Mark

E-mail sent on wood handled 18" AK. I was struck by an obscure thought, I've already got a small wood handled villager AK by Kumar, how neat would it be to have the same knife in a much larger version, and done by his older brother?;) :D :)

I doubt you will be disappointed in a villager style such as these, especially if you're buying it as a user. Anything sold my HI is going to be quality, I wouldn't sweat over that. Wood or horn is mostly preference, although the wood seems to be more resistant to humidity changes. If I didn't already have an 18" AK I would be all over these, believe me.

Damn, 10:14 all gone. How was I supposed to know I had to wake up so early :( I really wanted that sirupati...

Hey Mike, want to bring the Villager round to Provo for a visit this weekend? I'm trying to get a group together to go camping/hiking or just hangout and eat Dutch Oven.:D
