9" ASH-2 -- chopper or general use?

At 9", the ASH-2 will be a nice, compact chopper. Do you see it as a dedicated chopper (like the 11" ASHBM) or versatile, all-arounder (like the 8" NMSFNO)? It will be great for clearing brush, no doubt, but how about as a general use camp knife, even for food prep?

Thanks.
John

I'd imagine it would be more of a general-use camp knife than a chopper, although it will probably be great at chopping. The ASH-style handles are notorious for giving the user a blister on his/her pinky, especially if large hands are involved.

Based on the specs, I see it as more of an all-rounder, not a dedicated chopper.

Regarding the handle, I have already posted a question as to whether it has the original SH profile, or the new improved SH handle. Haven't seen an answer.

It looks to me to have an ASH1 handle rather than the ASHBM handle

I believe it's the ASH1 handle as well. I personally dislike 8" blades. 10" is ideal for a chopper and 6" for general use. So I'd say this is more of a compact chopper.

I'm just going to go ahead and throw out the idea that this will probably not be shipped before this Christmas.

Dang.

:(

Remember when a 9" blade was a big/huge knife :)

Great point David. So, compared to a ASHBM (11") or FBM (10"), the ASH-2 will be a compact chopper. Is it limited to that role -- too long for general purpose cutting/use?

Just remember, a big knife can do everything a big knife can do, and most of what a small can do. A small knife can do everything a small knife can do, and nothing a big knife can do.

True words there.

I've used my Bk9 for everything under the sun so I am sure the Ash 2 will be able handle any chore. While it may not be a pure chopper, it should be a great do it all knife. Just received the Busse Black Friday email and it states that last call for the Ash 2 is drawing near. Glad I got mine.

I'd put it in the same category as the SAR 8. Almost perfect "do it all, if I only had one" etc. Blade. Now I want one even more..........

..... yep this, I looked closely as I am not a big fan of the SH (the Battle Saw may cure me but I doubt it).

Do your ASHs know you speak of them this way?? :(

Please send them all to me so they can have a proper, loving home!

:p ;)

I was super excited for the new INFI but about a month ago decided that one of my next knives would be the nmsfno or nmfsh both of which are thicker I think and I know the hhfsh and nmfsh have much thicker options than the ash 2. I'm glad this one was infi but it also makes me wish I bought a battle saw.

Now I have to go tell my ash collection that their bigger brother has been voted off the island before he has arrived....

Respectively anyone with a bruiser nmfsh hit me up, I need

..... allow me to clarify..... I am not a fan of the handle on the ASHBM.... that on the ASH is a favourite... ;)

I really like the ASH-2 but I am hoping to get an LE version if they offer one. I just think the knife begs for a nice satin finish.
