What would you recomend for a 9" + blade bowie knife. I dont really want to spend too much, so I'm probably gonna go with a production model.

The Ontario RTAK us alot of knife for the money as is the Becker Knife & Tool 9" Combat Bowie. Either choice should be a good one.

Personally I don't like the Trailmaster handle material or shape.
CS Laredo Bowie
Ontario Bagwell Bowies
Spec Plus Frontiersman(most bang for the buck)
BK&T Brute(not really a Bowie) or 9"Bowie

I don't consider either of these knives "Bowies".

Mineral Mtn. Hatchet Works Survival Bowie.

Well worth the price, and a user out in the field.

The Stek Bowies look extremely impressive, especially for the price. I'm bidding on one on E-Bay right now so haven't actually handled one yet. But from all appearances and from the makers description it looks like an outstanding bargain for a custom Bowie.

WOW...
Thanks guys... soo many sugestions... everyone has been soo helpful.

so far, Top of the list is Mineral Mountain Hatchetworks Bowies. Some really nice designs and not too expensive either.
hows the 5160 spring steel? Im guessing you can beat on it pretty good.

Have you taken a look at Newt Livesay's knives?

The Ontario RTAK and Becker models are also good contenders.

so far...
Narrowing it down to what i like...

Bawell ontario's
Newt Livesay's HKR
and the front runner (so far) mineral mountain White river Bowie.

I really like the cs Laredo, but price wise, i might as well go custom.
Im still open to suggestions of course. Im liking the ones with decent looking,up swept back edges. Makes me wanna get Bill Bagwell's book, and a set of Keatings bowie tapes :D.

Oh, BTW, whats the deal with coffin handles? Is it just traditional, or is there more function to it?

Well, if you like Newt's knives...
What about his Sandbar Bowie?
