I'd like to know what's out there in this category. About a 9'' blade length, 1/4'' stock. Clip or drop point. Don't want a tanto or traditional bowie shape. Micarta handle. Production or handmade around $300 or less. I'm aware of the Rinaldi Armegeddon, Busse BM, and Becker Brute. Are there others?

AF,
Have you looked at the Busse Basic #9?

What are you going to use the knife for? I am assuming

that because you want it a 1/4" thick that it will be a hard use knife. Is that correct?

Allen Blade immediately comes to mind. Here is a picture of his 9" Combat Patrol Bowie (courtesy of HDCharlie

). Comes in well under your budget. In fact you could probably grab both the 9" and 5" for $300. Differentially heat treated 5160 with temper line (that is not a grind line you are seeing, they have a full flat grind), 1/4" stock, micarta handle. From what I here is work is awesome, the blades are tough and perform well and his sheaths are outstanding as well. You may have to be willing to wait however, I have had one on order for awhile and hopefully it will arrive soon

Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works has excellent large blades, and you could buy 2 for $300! They are big, rugged using knives, that you won't be afraid to use.

Not interested in the Basic 9 or any rubber handled knife. I don't really have a need for a knife of this class but they are fun. I have the Livesay RTAK and love it but I'd like something thicker. Great photo of Allen Blade's work, thanks. Looks first rate. Don't like the style much myself though. Mineral Mountain- those look great to me. Thanks!

I'm not sure of the exact length, but a Marbles Trailmaker would be in the ballpark, and they are a good feeling knife with a wicked edge.

I was also going to mention TOPS. They have about 4-5 models I'm looking at getting (eventually, funds permitting). But I have just seen the Rinaldi Armageddon for the first time. Anybody know cost, availability, etc? Website?

Thanks!

Chris Reeves makes (made) a couple of cool 9" One Piece Range Knives.

New Livesay's website may be a little hard to navigate but, worth checking out @ http://members.tripod.com/~Newt_Livesay/ . The RTAK or HKR might be what you're looking for. The 82nd Air Borne model has my eye at the moment.

Tops makes a good knife at a good price as well @ http://www.topsknives.com . I should note that they don't run their web site so, I would highly recommend you call them and talk real time instead of using email. They are a pleasure to do business with.

The Ontario Hells Bells might tickle your fancy.

If you can define what you want pretty well, talk to the many knifemakers who hang out around here. Your price point probably won't get anything fancy but, will get you a good forged knife with good fittings.

Stay Sharp,
Sid

P.S. With regards to the Armegeddon and the other knives, Trace is back logged about 6 or 7 months. This is based on a recent email exhange I had with him.
