I talked to a guy he said he would make me a reversable direction disc sander with a 1.5 horse motor what would a decent price be for one. He was telling me its the only way to make perfect grinds . Is that true or a sales pitch.Would a 9 inch be the best and how big should i get for a motor. This guy also builds grinders and has a single 2x72 for $400 without a motor. please let me know i dont want to buy a grinder that ill regret.I saw the guy use his and looked real good he has a single and a double so he doesnt have to change belts as often. thanks for all your replys . kellyw

a 9 inch grinder wont really be big enough unless your just making smaller 3 inch knives.

If a disk were the only way to make perfect grinds, a lot of makers would be out of business. A disk grinder is nice, but if you can afford a 2x72 get one and don't look back.

Having both and loving both, I would always get the 2x72 first, The disk needs varible speed and reverse. The disk will also use up more paper

I have both, and have never completely ground a blade start to finish on the disc grinder. IMO, the disc grinder....as long as it is variable speed, is a wonderful addition to the belt grinder. Where the disc grinder shines is finish grinding. If your only going to have one....get the belt grinder first....just more versatile.

A disk grinder with a beveled face is the way to go. The plate runs about $90.

My disk grinder is flat and I don't like it much, which is why I am ordering a new beveled one this week. I really wish I would have bought one to begin with.
