Can any one tell me if they get better finish from the steel or the aluminum disk'd that Rob Frink sells?

HE is out of the steel and I am this close to ordering the aluminum but I want to know if I will get a better finish from the heavier steel one.

Also, will the motor bearings hold up to the heavier steel disk?

Thanks

I have 2 steel disk from rob, never used the Alum. ones. Rob said the steel ones run alot smoother. I have yet to grind one on it but for flating parts its they are great. If he is out of the steel he is out for good it was my understanding it was a one time gig.

My thinking is thet steel being heavier will have more inertia at speed. It will slow down less when you grind on it. (A train pulling 100 cars takes longer to stop than a train pulling 50 cars.) It will also take a little longer to get up to speed.

As far as bearing life, as long as the disc is properly balanced the load on the bearings should be evenly distributed provided you are not using an undersized motor, which I would think is unlikely, doesn't Rob bore the mounting hole for a 3/4" or 7/8" shaft?

The ones I saw have a 5/8 bore
