Im trying to get all the "roll stamped" beckers before they disappear! I have the BK-2 BK-7 and BK-11. I want some input as to what would be the next best becker knife for me to get. The BK-9 or BK-5 magnum camp. I will be getting them both "eventually". but only have money for one right now. which is more popular? which would you choose!!!!????

also i know there is also the smaller Beckers (Eskabar,BK-11csm, BK-13) and the tac tool,
but i'm not looking to buy these at this point.

and don't worry, i have some separate money put aside for the Machax;)

You're going to hear a lot of nonsense about the 5. Don't fall for it. The 9 is a must have, and hands down my favorite woods knife I have ever owned. Don't be scared! Get the 9! Save the 5 for later. I have a 2, 9, and 11 currently, and have had a 10 and 14. The 2 and the 9 are constantly fighting for the coveted "favorite knife" title.

I am leaning twoards the BK-9, so that is comforting. i have always wanted the satisfactory of taking a good hard swing at a young sapling with the 9:D

thanks for the input:thumbup:

I feel like you need a bamf chopper. I'm going with the BK9 for my next becker. the 5 can wait.

I don't have a 5 yet, but I do own the 9, I have handled the 5, have not used it. I would say you can't go wrong with getting the 9. I do beleive the BK 5 is on the short list of things to get. So little time.

:eek::eek:

I'm gonna say the 5 because it's awesome and it can do exactly what the 9 can. No one who posted so far said they have a 5 or have used a 5 so what are they making their decision based on? I have the 9 and the 5. They actually are both pretty bad ass in their own right. It all depends on what you want them for. The 9 is a powerful chopper but the 5 with it's thinner profile can dig in too.

Since you really don't have anything specific in mind for either other than just to have just get which ever one you want. They are both bad ass!!

Will be plenty of time to acquire any of the roll stamped ones, there is a million of them. Get the 9 if you want a chopper. Get a 5 if you need a steak knife :D

I disagree.... And agree. You seem to contradict yourself, but make a point at the same time. I'll say the most important sentence is "it all depends on what you want them for"

Basically.... If you want to chop down mighty oak trees, while standing bare chested dripping testosterone and fighting off women that look like the girl in "Transformers3".... Get the 9. If you want cut vegetables to make a salad, open your mail, or clean your fingernails.... Get the 5. ;)

I respectfully disagree. The bk5 can do more, with less, than the bk9. It weighs less and is shorter. But by all means if all you wanna do is chop chop chop chop chop chop chop, then the bk9 will be a better choice. But if you want a camp knife, one that can slice, whittle, carve, notch, skin, and still chop, well the bk5 is it. Its called a magnum camp for a reason. Its long enough to do big chores like wood processing, while still being light and nimble enough to do small tasks MUCH better than the beefy bk9. Sure the bk9 can make feathersticks, but try notching a figure four or split stick dead fall, then using it to skin and slice up your prey. You will prob cut your leg off in the process.

My vote bk5. You don't know until you hold one. Believe me. I was of the school of thought that it would be the Becker I never buy since I didn't see a purpose. Until I got one in a trade. There is a reason why its my favorite and the one I carry. Magnum camp.

Edit to add: if you got money aside for a machax, then you won't need a 9

Doesn't matter. Get one or the other, you'll end up buying both anyways. Buy the 9 now, it'll just make you want the 5. Buy the 5 now, it'll just make you want the 9. Just take a leap, buddy. The water isn't that cold.

Now, if you have a specific job you intend for the knife, then you can get suggestions and perhaps make the "right" choice. In my opinion though, there is no wrong choice, and therefore no right choice.

just plunk down the credit card and buy all of them now :)

resistence is futile. then you'll have them

the Becker collective shall have you

pretty sure I'll head down that way myself...5 & 7 on the soon-to-buy list.

I wasn't a 5 fan until the gathering. I got a little time to play with my gf's BK5 during the knife rodeo. I regret sometimes that I gave it to her so quickly. I will say that I still prefer my BK9 her her BK5 for just about everything. If you have someplace close by that you can handle the different models, well do it. Honestly you really can't go wrong with either, but gun to my head I'd go 9.

I would also recommend you look at the knife rodeo video from the gathering and the video of Mr.Becker and Mr. Fisk explaining the BK5.

Well I don't know what to tell ya bud.

You have to have used the 5 to be able to know what it can really do and appreciate what it can do. No amount of reviews can even come close to saying how awesome a blade it is.

I'll tell ya what. The next time I go out I'll take only a 5 and 9 and do a side by side testing.

In the mean time though if you don't believe me then get a 5 for yourself.

There is a reason why its my favorite and the one I carry. Magnum camp.

I carry two ;)

i respect your opinion, and although i have money for the machax.... I "NEED" all of them!!;:D

My vote is BK5 because I like to stir the pot. BK9 is compensation for not being man enough to carry a felling axe as EDC, like me.
