901 Scimitar photos and history

Well I took a comparative photo of the 901 we used for our ribbon cutting ceremony, next to mine, and surrounding a 401 Kalinga.
The story behind these is that we wanted to reproduce the one that Hoyt made back in the 1940's, that was later stolen from the factory in the 1980's. The larger of the two in the picture represents the size Chuck remembered the original to be and the smaller is the size I figured it to have been.
Today it occured to me that I have a picture of the original 901 and in the picture are several other knives that we know how long they were. I did some quick math and figured Hoyt's scimitar was approximately 28" long. Not32" like I thought or 36" like Chuck. That shows what we know! ;)

Me too. Do you think a mirror polished blade and mother of pearl handles would be too presumptuous?
Here are pics of the 1947 Profitable Hobbies magazine article that shows Hoyt holding the knife.

I'll [grudgingly] go for the mirror blade... But MOP??? :barf:

I like the six wood sections & five spacers...with the big middle spacer...who designed/thought that one up??? :p

I would third this one!
That would be an awesome center piece for a Buck display!
Suggested retail right around $250.00? :D
I'm surprised the original hasnt "popped up" on any online auction site...

HHmmmm what kind of sheath to carry it though?? Maybe a flap over? :D

A "Conan The Barbarian" over-the-shoulder sheath... :D

Hey! You know who carried a cool scimitar??? Morgan Freeman in "Robin Hood" w/Kevin Costner...

AYE!!!
But what kind of handle should they have?

any as long as it is made for the fund raser!
i would donate chestnut from a 1752 log cabin for it...
i think i can supply enught for 200...
yea 200+ year old chestnut how cool is that?
if not a stacked handle then a full tang like the old 124..
and delivered at the meating in post falls would be cool also!

Joe...

Do you know the series run/count for the 901-MT-0? I have number "58" but I don't know what it is ("58" of "xxxx"). What is the "xxxx"?

There was no COA in the box.

Some of us are guessing "1,000".

Here is the pic:

Boys and their toys!!!!!! I can just see Messy out in the yard swinging his new 901 out in the yard and then batoning it through a block of frozen tree.....LOL, The goose on his scoot in a fez helmet with crazy Dave on the back in matching fez helmet chasing a Bison down the road......maybe an Elk in Idaho.....:). Joe, Mike, and Mav out on the Buck plant lawn playing mumbly peg.....Joe's cheating because his 901 is bigger than anyone else's.....Oh isn't imagination a grate thing!!!!!!

How long would it take to mirror polish a 28" scimitar??!!! I was only kidding by the way. :p

I did a search on the 901mt and it says we made 100 of them last year. Says it had a mirror polished blade and micarta handle. Sounds pretty nice!

I dont know if I could actually play mumbly peg with this brute. I can hardly lift it!

Funny jb! :D I thought my little batoning incident would have been long forgotten by now

I still have a large pile of wood to be split, I wonder how a 901 would handle it?? :D

Hi Joe...
Thanks...but mine looks, feels, and smells phenolic (however ya spell that).
I don't have any micarta, so I could be wrong. But it seems like "plastic".
