909 Stryker Clip Weak Retention Or Pocket Disintigration?

I have been carrying one or the other of my two new 909s since receipt and love the knife... but it keeps backing out of my pocket when I grab my keys; something that doesn't happen with any other knife I own. All my other Benchmades make a discernable "clip" noise upon removal and my 909s do not. I am guessing that it is due to a longer, more slender clip, combined with the smaller contact area the clip makes.

Anybody else experience this? Are any other clips compatible with this knife?

It is not my intention to nitpick at the knife because I really, really dig it. I simply do not want to lose it due to something as silly as this. I may just bend the clip in toward the handle at a tighter angle when I take it off to smooth the G10.

*****Update*****

Made some progress. I took the clip off, smoothed the G10 underneath contact point with some 600 grit sandpaper, bent the clip in at a more aggressive angle with some Leatherman pliers. It is an improvement.

This is another reason I refuse to buy one. The ruined the knife with the hump on the back and this non-standard clip. No need to use a different screw pattern. They should have used the contego clip so you could still put a normal BM clip on it.

I would also prefer a Contego clip -or just the standard, non-arrow clip. I wouldn't say that the knife is ruined by any stretch, but an improved clip is something that should definitely be considered.

The clip and lack of standard mounting holes for alternatives is the weak spot on these. A simple split arrow would've been a much better solution.

Point is. This maybe more the standard clip gong forth or at least pretty common. It is the same clip as on the 300 and the Triage.

If you look at any Axis locked knife. The stop pin sits slightly higher then the top of the lock. It appears the hump is there for the stop pin. Not a biggie for me. The clip is not highly sprung but sturdy. Which is a good thing give the texture of the G-10.

MarkG, I agree with you that the tightness of the clip is probably set relative to the G10 texture on this one. The only way I saw getting the retention I wanted was to sand down the G10. Otherwise, the Stryker would decimate my pocket. This slight modification has given me more confidence that I won't lose this beaut on the street. I like it too much to lose.

As far as the "hump" on the handle, I think it gives far superior grip over any gimping I've held. It acts like a small upper guard and is very comfortable. I don't see any useful grip for this type of knife which it impedes. Comfort is subjective, though, and I can understand people wishing for the classic profile, too.

I agree with everything you said. I don't get discounting a knife without holding it, unless it is for purely aesthetic reasons. Would I prefer the original handle shape and the thumb disk? But as the Rolling Stones said, " You can't always get what you want, but you can get what you need..."
