92 or 47?

I was looking for a single blade and these two have caught my fancy so to say. But what I was wondering is how they are side by side? Pull, blade length, thickness in hand? The 47 seems to be a thicker knife all together which I am not opposed to. Anyone happen to have both that I could see side by side?

Thanks in advance!

Gabe -

I'm traveling right now, so I can't take a side by side pic of the #47 next to the #92, but you are correct - the single-blade #92 is slimmer in the hand than the #47. Pull might be a tad stiffer on the #47, but as I recall they are pretty comparable in this regard. Thickness in the hand is also similar with both models, but the #47 does have a little more 'heft' to it.

Hope that helps - either way, you can't go wrong.

Glassjaw-Here is a pic from a sale a while back. 92 and 47 Wharnies. With that being said, I have a 92 spear blade that I carried from the end of June until October. I love the knife. I just needed to switch it up a bit and have been carrying my TK Cuban. The 92 disappears like a single blade trapper, but has more "meat" to the blade. The wharnie version can be pinched open. My spear blade, has the most perfectly executed nail nick that I have ever felt. The depth and back angle allow outstanding purchase by the thumbnail, unlike any other GEC I have. The blade is very thin behind the edge and is like a razor. I can't say enough about the 92.

Here's a comparison - the 47 is a little bigger in every dimension but both are fantastic knives

I do not own a #92, although I have had a strong temptation to purchase one. However I do own three of the #47's. Below are my 2 favorites.

I love my 'fancy' ebony #47, but I sure hope we see another run of sheepsfoot Hay'n Helpers sometime soon!
I Got lucky and found this single and a 2 blade in Nife Bright during the Thanksgiving holiday. I am growing very fond of the single blade:)

I dont own a Talon but I have a Viper and a 55 Houndstooth. I seem to recall some shots comparing the Talon to the Houndstooth and the former is slightly bigger in most dimensions. If I owned neither I would buy the 92. The 47 is a big knife for a wharncliffe and it is certainly suited to some hard work, I have put mine through the paces on the job site and have never had a complaint. Same goes for the 55 and work, I dont hold back. For example, I cut open old soda cans to hold glue for tasks at work with my knives. I use them for any task I feel is not going to damage the knife.

I do however prefer and pocket the 55 more than any other knife I own. I love the pinchability of the 47 and debate with myself of getting a talon all the time.

In my oppinion start with a Talon. It is the middle of the road size wise and has some great features. The wharncliffe is a great blade shape suitable for most jobs. It has a few limitations but I feel very comfortable carrying a single blade wharnie and would not hesitate to ever do so. Whatever you pick up you honestly cant go wrong

Thanks a ton gentlemen! The 92 may be where I go. I tend to load my pockets quite a bit. If that is not enough knife the 47 will be there. I really appreciate all of the input and hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!
