Can anybody tell me a little more about this? I got one in a trade, and like it quite a bit. It seems to have "that feel", of benchmades of days gone by. JKARP, can you weigh in on this? How long ago did they go away? Thanks

The Kulgera/930 first appeared in the 2008 catalog and was discontinued somewhere in 2011. Interesting knife, a little odd with exposed liners and a fragile 'BP' coating that really did wear quickly. I liked the G-10 scales and the blade design was definitely in the 'Ozzie' family...but I didn't keep it being the most uncomfortable among many bought during that time.

What is the BP coating? Mine has a silver blade (bead blast, stonewash?), and a darker liner.

BP, or BP1 listed in the 2010 catalog, also called Black Pearl is a thin decorative coating, but acts strangely and doesn't hold up. On mine, the clip was the first to show the bright silver underneath, then other parts followed. The darker liners you mention have this coating L2.

It's a nice knife...it came out around the time of the Rift and the two-tone G10 work on both were really unusual in design and very cosmetically pleasing. The detail work on the handles of both was also impressive. I agree it was not the most comfortable and with the liners being flared it felt kind of weird in the hand. I had one briefly, but ultimately sold it because I have a few 940's and a 943 and I liked the reverse tanto blade profile of the 940 and the ergos of 940 more. It's a neat knife nonetheless and they are getting hard to find in good condition.

The reason I don't think it saw a long run was partly because any knife in that form factor is going to be compared to the 940, and the 940 is a really difficult knife to improve upon...like really, really difficult.
