Yesterday I found in a small hardware store here a Schrade display case, already half empty. It turned out, they still had a few Schrades not shown in the display case, and some of those were on sale too.

I ended up buying a 93OT serpentine two bladed jack knife, OAL 3 9/16" with brown, sawcut delrin handles, stainless steel Turkish clip point and sheepsfoot blades, rounded bolsters for $15.
I also bought a 296Y yellow delrin trapper for $18.

The 93OT is a very handy and comfortable little knife, very sheeple friendly. It has a nice fit and finish and a great walk and talk.

The 296Y is much nicer than my first American pocketknife, the Case SS yellow delrin trapper. The Schrade has a much nicer finish, the blades are sharp and the clip point blade is not rounded. The Case had some bad fit issues and considerable blade play, the Schrade is a tight, good knife.
There are some fit issues with one of the springs sticking out when the blade is open, but this was even worse on the Case.

The 93OT will be part of my regular EDC rotation and the 296Y is going with me on hikes.

BTW, the wast majority of the knives they had in the store were the Frost cutlery type of junk.

Good prices on those knives, good for you. Frost seems to be going after those hardware accounts very aggressively, furnishing display inserts that fits into the old Schrade display cases. It's kinda a shock to the system seeing that.

Textoothpk, I agree with you. It is painful to see a honest working knife line being replaced with cheesy, tasteless "semi-tactical" junk.

But you did good to rescure those nice Schrades from potential buyers who wouldn't appreciate them. I got my own 296Y pretty much the same way, from a store that was a Fred's back in the eighties, then went independent as a general store in the tiny town of Scotts Hill. There were about six Schrades with the old Fred's price stickers and that is what I paid. The 296Y is a nice pattern, though a bit large for me to EDC. And they weren't made for many years (92-98, IIRC), so they aren't as commom as many.
