Hey guys I was looking to buy a 940-1. My question for those who have this version and the aluminum handle version is about blade play. I can get my aluminum handle 940 to have zero side to side play with pretty good action. Not free dropping but very smooth. I have a 940-1501 that I can't seem to get the side to side play out and not have it stiff as a board to operate. I switched the mechanism to my aluminum handle and its back to being solid as a rock so I know it must be the scales. I hate blade play so this bothers me a lot. I love the scales but cant stand the play. I was looking at teh 940-1 but I'm concerned it may have the same issue. Any experience with these models would be great guys. Just don't want to be disappointed again. Thanks

The 940-1 I had didn't have discernible blade play even when "free swinging". ... That said the knife is light weight and somewhat less rigid than the metal scales with the spacer rather than the standoffs.

But I'm looking to get another 940-1, but not any of the other 940 family.

My 9401-1 is free swinging also with no blade play. When I received it brand new the, centering of the blade was deffinetly off. Long story short I sent it in for a blade replacement and asked that the blade be centered and it came back perfect. Thing is light, smooth, and crazy fast opener. My experience anyways.

When I got my 940-1 I had a little trouble with blade play, but the culprit turned out to be a pivot screw that was turning slightly as the blade was opening and closing. A little loctite and some lubricant took care of everything. Not saying everyone's problems will be that easy to rectify, but sometimes the simple solutions are the best.
