if I remove the clip on a 940-1 and put it in my pocket. With keys,flashlight,micro-tool ETC. Is the carbon fiber going to get scratched? Or will it stand up to that? I apologize if this is a dumb question. I honestly don't know. I am asking before I do it since I do not wish to ruin it. Thank you

Only way for a knife to stay pristine is not using it. Or even better, do not take it out of the original package.:p

Handle is not going to be destroyed if that's what you are asking. Scratches? Well, sure. Knife will get scratched sooner or later, it will also happen during use, whenever you put it on a hard gritty surface, etc.

Some people do not carry any other stuff in their dedicated knife pocket. I always carry in my front right pocket with a clip and usually don't carry much crap in that pocket. IF anything, it could be a thin wallet, which being leather, does not harm the knife in any way. But I have carried keys and pocket change at times and I didn't ruin any knives.

Regarding the no-clip route, beware that the knife will probably slide down and sit flat at the bottom of the pocket. Probably uncomfortable if pants are tight and forces you to reach with the whole hand to grab it.

If you want to carry clip-less to conceal the knife from others view, consider carrying clipped inside the waistband slanted. The belt of your pants will cover the clip and unless you tuck in the shirt/t-shirt too tight, the protruding end of the knife will not show either. Blouse it a bit and done. If you don't tuck it in, even better.

Thank you Mike. Of course I understand normal wear and tear. It already has plenty of that. I guess I phrased my question wrong. I meant will it gouge it and render it but a junker?
I wear "baggies". You would be surprised how much stuff is already in the front right pocket including a 4" knife. I just personally do not like clips. The only item I keep concealed due to law is my firearm.
There are a lot of metal items in the pocket. I do not mind the knife being scratched. As you eluded, it already is. I meant I do not wish to "destroy" it. If that would occur? From what you stated I am guessing not.
That knife is not a toy. It is a heavy use knife, per my understanding. It is actually the flashlight that will rest at the bottom due to being the heaviest. I also dislike EDC pocket pouches.
As long as it will not "chew up" the 940-1 it is fine with me. I do not require quick deployment. From what you say I imagine it will survive mostly unscathed. I appreciate that you answered this.

No worries, it will not be destroyed by any means.

3...2...1... Someone is about to jump here and tell you that your 940-1 is, indeed, a toy :D :D Kidding but while it might be sturdy, given the thin/slim handle I would not consider it a heavy-use knife, but more of a long-blade-slim-carry sort of knife. If we were discussing Benchmade Adamas I would wholehartly agree with you.
Not long ago I was considering buying a 940-1 but the steep price (from my economy point of view) and the feeling of "smallishness" (compared to models with 100mm blade length) didn't fully convince me to pull the trigger. Anyway, I am jealous of yours!

Absolutely!

Thank you Bro. That was nice of you to break it down for me. I meant heavy use in perspective within it's limitations. It is not a $10 Chinese knife. On that note I got mine the day it came out. I paid $340USD! They are down to $272. I actually have much nicer knives but I hold them as investments. At my age it will be my Family getting the benefits. So, in the pocket it goes. It is replacing a custom Marfione. I just feel with the flashlight everything is too heavy. The Marfione may be a nicer knife but I do not judge things that way. I like what I will use. I just hope my new Wicked Edge does not scratch it. I think I have that fixed. I really appreciate that you answered all my trivial questions. A lot of other people on the forum would have dismissed this post. It meant a lot to me. I really did not want to risk wrecking the Benchmade. Take care Buddy.

You could try something this....I carry it in the front right pocket of my jeans.
I use it all the time , keeps the knife in a stable position and somewhat protected.

Once the sheath is broken in, you can reach into your pocket, grab the back of the knife and it will slip out.
Plus you can put a flashlight or another knife in the second compartment.

For size reference , that's a Buck 110.

Sometimes I feel like it might look weird, but removing the clip and carrying in a sheath or pouch on the belt is a very comfortable way to carry a knife and using the knife is as fast and easy as clipped to the pocket.
The only thing is you now have something hanging off your hip all day.

It's only a question of how we choose to look weird. ;-)

Belt pouch = dorky-but-organized weird. Like the guys who wear a cell phone in a belt pouch.
Pocket clip = tactical weird, like having pens and flashlights clipped to the shirt pocket.
Loaded pockets = Nerdy weird

The only way NOT to look weird is to carry a small-enough, thin enough knife and not load down the pockets with all this tactical fantasy stuff that we tend to carry. For example: keys, wallet and small SAK or traditional knife. Maybe a hanky.

I'm an HVAC tech so people expect clips, pouches, and tools to be hanging off me anyway. I get away with carrying a fixed blade because my tool pouch covers it and the sky's the limit if I plan to carry a knife in my truck or bag.
So yeah, after a while, weirdness aside, I carry what I want :D

For how loose my jeans are. My pockets are hardly overloaded. Certainly not bulging. The 940-1 is not a large knife. I just threw it in there. Compared to what it replaced at 8 ounces I don't notice it.

HVAC? SLP99V is incredible!
