940 blade retention

Hey Benchmade forum,
I picked up a 940-1 the other day and it is rather awesome. I've been playing with it nonstop, and while messing around with it found that I could whip the blade open without touching the thumb studs or axis lock.
Holding the closed knife horizontally, blade facing the ground I can shake it lightly and the blade will pop out just a little, but be pulled back in by the lock.
Holding the closed knive vertically the blade can be opened with a good strong flick of the wrist. Holding it vertically and upside down I can open it with a medium strength wrist flick.
Now I know that in your pocket a knife is unlikely to ever encounter that type of force and motion, but none of my other knives (including my only other axis lock, my 531) have blades that release so easily. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Nope. Just the fun of the axis lock. I have never had a issue with this lock while carrying it in my pocket.

Cool, thanks for easing my worries. After messing around with my 531 I found I can get the blade to release as well. I assume the lighter weight of the 531 blade makes it more difficult.

This is normal with the 940. It's less noticeable with say, the Griptillians, and non-existent with the Barrage family (because of the spring).
The 530/531s don't have this at all (or very very minimal). I use that feature to open my knives sometimes, so I'm sure it's normal. It's like that with all my Benchmades, and with the ones I've seen at stores

I prefer my 940's to have about that much play in them. It might be the fastest deploying knife I own. There's just a touch of side-to-side blade play but I don't mind. It's very easy to adjust the pivot screw to remove all blade play and still be able to flick the knife open, so it's just a matter of preference. My advice to everyone who owns benchmades is to buy a good set of bits and play with the pivot screws to find what you like.
