I threatened to start a new thread wannahearit?hereitgo !

a quote from my 'I'm delirious because I bought my first 940' thread :

I may be crazy but I feel like I got ~$270 worth. There is no other knife out there that I want that I would pay that much for. Now maybe some things in my head that I might pay that much for if it would suddenly appear but you have all read my posts, threads and rants.

How would I change it ? What don’t I like ?

I am considering starting a new thread or sending a note to Benchmade . . . this is super trivial . . . I would ask for or suggest they maybe ADD a model choice, the 940-1 Osborne . . . POINT ONE :
dif = thicker handle but same exact shape.
Could call it “The Fat Boy”. Don’t discontinue the original OBVIOUSLY just add a fat handle option.

Bottom line (at least so far) I am so happy; THANK YOU BENCHMADE.

. . . so how about it ?
Any other takers ?

Benchmade : Feel free to make one just for me if this question is not greeted with wild yelps of enthusiasm. :D

Sounds good. If you like your knife whatever you paid for it is worth every penny. You can't buy satisfaction, but If you're happy with it that's all that matters. It's Your money after all.

Well, I've been reading your posts for awhile now and I understand how you like your handles.
But.....
For me the thin handles is one of the characteristics that makes it so pocket friendly.

You might be able to talk one of the grip makers here to make you a thicker set.
New screws of course.

Oh and you might want to check out the 950 Rift. It's about time you picked up another folder.

Ha, ha, ha,
I haven't even threw out the shipping box or refined the edge on the 940 yet.
Really cool looking knife though (the 950 Rift).
Nah I'm about out of money for the year for the nicer knives. I was half way convincing my self this 940 is my Christmas present.
Also some where here on Blade Forums I officially stated that once a person buys a 940 well that is the end of knife buying, at least for me. . . . nothing else is left after that.
Done.
No more.
Ever.
Again.
That's it.
Period.

Riiggghhtttt. No more knives eh? I said that to myself three knives ago....

Good point.
Kind of like putting a snow plow on a Ferrari . . . no matter how useful it just ain't right.

I'm not sure if it couldn't work (snow plow on a Ferrari definitely ain't going to work too well) - I've just noticed that the blade and handle profiles of my 943 are very similar to the thicker handled Mcusta Basic (a liner lock, right hand tip down only though). Get one of them in hand, see if you like the thicker grip and how it carries - if you do like it, get one of the custom scale makers here to make you a set of fat boy scales for your 940.

I happen to like both - variety being the spice of my collection.

DOAT is making some 940 grips with inlays which look like they are thicker on the back strap (no concave groove) which might get you closer to what you are looking for... even without the inlay.

I liked my 94x's for carry until I had to cut up really thick cardboard. The knife is capable but my hand was wanting a thicker handle.

Although it is a completely different knife, I ended up getting a Presidio 1 (now 3 of them) that I use as the standard for comparing knife handles to. I have around 15 BM's (and 3 Spydies), including the Presidio 2 which still play second fiddle to my 520's. I also really like the BM Boost ergos which is my second most carried BM.

Funny thing, that handle search led me to currently carry a Buck 112 DP in S30V. I prefer my 520 still, but the 112 gives me that fat handle and acceptable blade when I feel like carrying a more traditional style.

Honorable mention to my mini bone collector, which has a thicker handle. The mini Barrage looks similar but I haven't handled one. The mini Presidio isn't as thick but I believe the blade can be swapped with a mini Bone collector if that blade style is more appealing.

Lastly, if size and weight is more of a priority, I was very impressed by the inexpensive Opinel 8. Although it needed a good sharpening out of the box, and the deployment is slow, the handle was very comfortable in use. Plus, it's so inexpensive that even if I didn't like it I wasn't out much.

If you have a chance to handle any of these knives before purchase let me know what you think. I think in a previous post, you suggested that we had similar tastes when it came to handles.
