940 Closed Blade Play

Well, I've had my bog standard BM940 for about 6 months now and I've loved it. Except for one thing: When it's closed, there is a lot of blade play, but when it's open, it's bank-vault locked. I've just about ground my T-9 torx bit to a nub messing with the pivot (not literally, but you get the point). The reason this is such a problem is because whenever it gets the slightest tap, the blade hits the aluminum scales and actually makes a really loud sound, the sound of, well, two pieces of metal smashing together. So I was wondering if anyone else has this problem and/or knows how to fix it. Thanks.

Are you sure its the blade that's hitting the scale and not the stop pin rattling?

I've had knives that were solid on lock up, but when tossed on the bed/couch/chair, heard the blade "clack" against liner/scale, so..yea, could be.

Sorry, I have no other solution to offer other what you've tried...tightening the pivot. Have you tried fully disassembling, reassembling?

Locking blades WILL have blade play in the closed position because they aren't locked.

When I got my 484 it was very loose closed. But I tightened the pivot and it does not wiggle close, opens buttery smooth and zero play when open....

It is definitely not the stop pin. I read that in another thread somewhere a little while ago, so I checked by holding the stop pin static, but that didn't work. It's the blade against the scales. It's not a huge deal, it's just that when it's in my pocket and, say, my hand by chance taps my pocket, it produces a very audible clack. Oh well, I'll just live with it. The 940 is still my favorite blade, but some of my Spydercos are closing in on it.
