I recently got a 556 and it was my first benchmade and I love it. Now I am looking for a higher quality edc. Think I have narrowed down to 940 or 940-1. Just not sure how durable the 940-1 carbon fiber is and was wondering which would be better for me. Any comments would be appreciated

Thanks

Although the heavier, solid aluminum handle of the 940 feels slightly more durable than the lighter carbon fiber handle slabs of the 940-1, you'd probably have to abuse the 940-1 to really damage it. I have both and prefer the 940-1. Like the 940, it's very versatile, but lighter and even more portable with upgraded steel. You can't really go wrong either way.

Ditto

I have neither, but I do want a 940-1 wayyy more than I want a 940. The combination of carbon fiber with anodized blue back spacers looks gorgeous to me. Add the fact that S90V can keep cutting for days, and I'm totally sold.

Excuse me, I need to come up with some funds for a 940-1...

The better choice for the money is the 940-1. Carbon fiber is both tough and light and holds up well. S90V for blade steel will hold an awesome edge, but will require something better than a Sharpmaker; an Edge Pro or something similar. Much like D2, don't let the edge go dull...stropping after use can help.

Same situation. 556 was my first BM and my second was the 940. After visiting as many booths as I could at Blade Show, I pulled the trigger on the 940. Absolutely love it. Last year I got a chance to handle the 940 at 2014 Blade and I loved it as well. The 940 has all the same functionality as the 940-1. Just depends if you are looking for a knife, or something a lil extra! I'd go 940.

I don't think I've ever disagreed with Joe before, but I will say that a Sharpmaker can do a perfectly good, even great, job on S90V. I have a CF/S90V Spyderco Military that's been sharpened on nothing else and it's getting fairly old now. Possibly the reason that it works for me is that like Joe I don't let steel in that class get dull before the edge gets some attention.

I have a few variations of the 940,but the s90v version I just had to get,Ankerson had some excellent results with the s90v(i believe it was the 940-1) on his cutting test-you might want to get the 940 first ,to see if it will fit your needs, you can always sell it later, if it turns out you like it you can get the get an s90v version ,I don't know if they are a limited run which may also factor in your decision, there was a time where getting this caliber of edc was crazy hard.
