I know the drill of reputable dealers. This knife did come from one. I know them personally. So before asking them about it (don’t want to freak them out like I’m questioning their business) I figured I’d post here first.
Maybe I’m just too new to Benchmade to not know this answer already. I have 3 940 variations... 2 have either a patent number or a website beneath the Osborne logo. This new one I purchased yesterday does not. Didn’t notice it till I got home.
Has anyone else seen this on a 940 ?

Mfg. date on the box says: 1/18/18

Thanks for y’alls time !

Jeff

From what I understand, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, the patent info on the blade was regarding the Axis lock. Since the patent recently expired on the Axis lock, Benchmade no longer puts the patent number on the blades of knives produced after that point.

Thanks for the insight. I like the cleaner look also. Any idea why no website info ? Is that a 2018 change ?

I believe the Axis Lock patent expired in July of 2016. It is no longer on their website as a Benchmade patent (although the Axis Assist still is).

http://www.benchmade.com/patents

I have owned some Axis knives that were manufactured in 2017 that still have the patent info, so they may be blades from stock made prior to 7/16.

This is all just speculation based on my internet research. Maybe Jimmy Benchmade Benchmade can give us a more informed answer.

For what it's worth, I also like the cleaner look. Especially on the Benchmade designs that just have the logo on the front side and the steel type on the reverse.

Our patent for the manual axis lock and axis auto are currently expired. The patent for the axis assist is still valid. Therefore we have started removing the extra patent mark from some models.

Thanks for the clarification Jimmy.

Thanks Jimmy !

And any reason for removing website also ? Is this as a time stamp of change or anything?

Appreciate your time !

Thanks for the confirm Jimmy. I agree the simpler look always (looked) better!

The website laser mark was actually our patent website. Since the patents are no longer valid on some models we are removing the mark.

Thank you Jimmy. Sorry for so many questions. Guess I didn’t realize the website was actual patent markings.
I assumed that was literally just “website” markings and this was actual “patent” markings.
Thanks again for your help !
