I picked up my BM940 Osborne, Red Handle, Plain Edge, serial #2/50 from Roger at Bayou Lafourche Knife Works today. One heck of a good lookin' knife!! Check em out:

(his pic isn't very good)

My question is, should this knife be used or put up on the shelf. It is 1 of only 50 so I would think that would add some value, but its too darn pretty not play with! What to do!!!

Carry that succa! It won't be worth enough down the road to make up for the loss of enjoyment you would've had using it!

No! Get a normal 940 and use that! You'll regret banging up your rare one later! Personally, I just don't invest in limited edition stuff, because I feel bad when I use it. The normal one will function the same, so why get the rare one?

Just like the rolling stock sitting on the new car lot...once you 'drive it off the lot' it becomes 'used', no longer nib and depreciates accordingly.....so just use it and enjoy...it ain't going to appreciate sitting on the shelf. These things aren't investments that build value in any appreciable fashion. On the other hand if I REAllY like a knife I may keep a real user for everyday wear, and perhaps have a back-up in the box...just in case I lose or destroy my 'user'. Then there's always the 'extra-backup'...and perhaps a 'special gift back-up'. Kinda adds up to 3 or 4 of a kind...glad I don't like any more knives than I do. Gee...now I realize why I don't get into those customs...can't afford THAT disease.

Oh well. Still can't decide. Think I'll leave it in the box for a while and stick with the green one until then.

Thanks for the input,
