Hey guys. I’ve been reading and researching autos and came across the 9400. I always loved the blade shape of the 940 as well as the green handle. All things aside, for anybody who owns both an axis lock and auto version, do you prefer one over the other? Is one smoother than the other? I like the color of the black blade but am a stickler for no blade play and having had experience with Benchmade’s black blade coating I know it gums up the works of you take out the blade play. Opinions?

My opinion would be for the manual, Axis lock. They're less expensive, fewer components for potential issues, open just as quick as an auto and easier and faster to close as well.

As far as smoothness, blade play, etc, I'd guess either style are just as susceptible as the other (with or without coating); I have / have had multiple of both styles and have had good examples from factory and not good, but almost always ended up tuning to my preference anyway.

Autos are cool, but in a practical manor, the manual is better, you can get away with opening and closing with just using one hand. With an auto, you need two hands to close it unless you want to risk using your hip or leg to help close it like I've seen people do 😬. Or you can carefully use one hand to close an auto side opener but it can be tricky.
