943 Owners: I have questions.

I'm really leaning towards the 943 as my next knife, but I'm still a little unsure. I handled one at a local store and liked it. However, while it felt smooth and precise, it also felt somewhat delicate. My favorite knife I own is a Spyderco PM2. Comparing the two, the handles are much beefier on the PM2, obviously, and the blade is wider. I certainly don't abuse my PM2, but I do use it and it's been great.

As much as the 943 costs, I'd hate to spend that only to feel like I'm "afraid" to use it due to the 943 feeling "fragile". Does that make sense?

I appreciate any and all feedback from 943 owners.

Thanks!

Hi. I've owned a couple of 943 models over the years. It's not a fragile knife, simply a slim one. When you say "Afraid and Fragile" those are two words that don't describe the 943.

I understand what you may be afraid of but definitively the 943 is not fragile at all
It is a sleek design but there is no fragile spot in it
The tips may be thinner compared to a 940 but not compared to a PM2
Blade-wise I don't think the 943 is more fragile than the PM2
The only difference between these two knives are the handle that is more confortable in use on the PM2 and more discrete in pocket on the 943

One point that may differentiate them is define natively the grip not the blade
If you need to do powerful cuts you will be more confortable with the PM2
Same thing is you are used to wear gloves when using your knife or if you need to have diffzrent positions for holding the knife
... the PM2 is not IMO stronger but it has better ergonomics

Otherwise I think the 943 is a better, slimmer EDC

I use my 943 for my "dress" knife in slacks, front or back pocket, it disappears but when you need it you have a great 3.5" blade in a 2 oz. package.

I love my 943 and while I mostly use it for office / box cutting I carry it in my suit pants etc which is perfect for me. I have other knives for carrying when i am out camping but I wouldn't hesitate to use it camping either. my next pick up will be a PM2

The PM2 will slice better due to blade geometry.

Here's a recent thread that got moved then derailed that kinda compares the 940 series and the PM2:

If I had to choose between the 943 specifically and the PM2, I'd probably give the nod to the 943.

I love my 943. It is the BK model, all black. It is used daily and definitely doesn't have an "easy" life. It is not fragile at all.

Need not to fear! As long as you don't drop it tip down on to tiled floor or concrete floor you will be just fine.

Benchmade has great warranty where if you snap the tip off or broke the blade in halves, they will replace it for $25. It will have to be the same blade steel that originally come with the knife. So if you have the fancy 940-1 S90V it will cost the same. But you can't ask for an upgrade even if you want to pay more.

So there! Now go get yourself one and start having fun with it!
