I purchased a 1998 Emerson commender, #377, used from craigslist a few Weeks ago and was told by a Co worker that it is possibly collectable. Any clue if he is correct? Thanks

It is. The 98 (and some of the 99) models were built with thicker liners than all the subsequent production.

IMO the only way it would be collectible is if it were in new condition, never used, with the box and all paperwork in pristine condition. Is it a cool knife to own? Sure, I would imagine so. As for the value, here is a little diddy as quoted by the moderators and part of the forum rulese here at BFC:

WHAT IS MY KNIFE / GADGET / SPATULA / TUNING FORK WORTH?!?!?!?!

What RevDevil said is completely true. Also, there are many knock-off Emersons, and without seeing photos of the knife, there's no way to know if it is a real Emerson or not.
