G'Day Paul, I had seen those also and wondered how a UH without staglon handles has blue scales and siver bolsters and appears in an Old Timer Box etc.
That seller is not backward in putting knives that are genuine, in other boxes.e.g. Longhorn Stockman in brown box when it really appeared on wall display package.
All that said I believe the actual knives may indeed be genuine Special Edition knives as stated. Robert Clemente acknowledges that in the 90's 897UH's appeared with "silver and other precious metals and special handle materials".
A Special Edition was also created for a hardware store chain with tang and box marked 898UH and 'different handle materials'.
I think they are more examples of Schrade doing what Schrade wanted to do without following the convention of the traditional knife. I wonder what is marked on the respective boxes? Want to ask? Hoo Roo
