Has anyone ever returned one of these for warranty work? I would like to send it in to have the liner lock replaced. It has moved completely across the blade tang and I am afraid it will soon result in poor lock engagement. The WAVE has put a hurtin' on it :) If this happens and I have to return it, my main concern is will they replace the liner w/ an older style thicker one or will they replace both w/ the current thinner liners (or a thicker/thinner combo) ? I was hoping that Emerson Knives may have some of the older thicker liners for warranty replacement. I really don't want to send it back if the liner will be replaced w/ a thinner one. Thanks for your help.

Replacement isn't necessarilly the only option available to them, it may only require a little adjusting/tweaking.

Either way, my advice would be to Customer Service and explain your concerns and see what can be worked out. I suspect they'll be more than willing to work with you as much as possible on it.

As a side note, I see a lot of guys worrying about exactly where the liner engages the back of the blade these days. Someone apparently has decided that "half way across or more" equals "Bad."

It ain't necessarilly so.

Anyway, email them and let us know what they tell you!

Hi!
Im in Scotland right now and managed to find a public internet acess booth :)
John is right that i sent one of my 98 commanders in, Derek fixed me up and it as good as new :)
One cannot go wrong with Emerson!!

Off to single malts... ;)

Have the Guiness for breakfast, and spend the rest of the day chasing down a nice single malt that's old enough to get cheap car insurance. Something with a nice sooty aroma, and smooth enough to polish baby bottoms.
Ahhhhh....
You're a lucky man Jonas, enjoy it.
:D

Thanks for the email address John. I appreciate the help.

Ken, I don't think having the liner set halfway over or more is a bad thing. I do think having the liner locking all the way over resting against the opposite liner w/ blade play developing is a bad thing. Happens to all liner locks. I'm not trying to say anything negative about Emerson Knives. I'm only looking for others real world experiances w/ returning their Commanders under similar circumstances.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Thanks again.

As a side note: Love that WAVE! Brillant in it's simplicity and extremely effective.

Hi guys!

Back home after gallons of Guinness.. ;)
Had a great time and it's boring to be back home.

But i do get to carry more knives at home.

Good luck with the knife, and you're right 'bout the wave :)

EKI returned my email the very next day. They are checking now. Worst comes to worst, I can always get a custom maker to replace the liner. No big deal either way (but one would be a heck of a lot cheaper then the other :) ). Thanks for the help guys.
