Hi all,

I found (what researched shows) is a Circa 1961 Swiss Army Victorinox Alox Pioneer knife

in VERY nice condition which I purchased today at the "Thrift Shop" for .99

($1.04 with tax)! The "main" blade has been a bit abused however, me thinks it can be

corrected with a little effort. The rest of the knife is in almost "new" condition.

BORROWED picture from Multi Tool forums (thank you Fronta). Any objection and I will delete.

God, ya gotta LOVE "Thrift Shops!"

Great find! I don't ever find knives in thrift shops around my neck of the woods. Maybe I need to travel more ;)

Really awesome score.
All i find are kitchen knives for $2 and under which I'm happy enough to find of course, but this is really a great score.

Hi guys,

Oooh Thank you! I must say, the more I "dig/research" this knife, I'm finding out (much too my surprise) this is a fairly "rare/collectable" knife!

Wow! I'm pretty blown away! I was (in general) happy to have just found a nice condition SAK but, this is awesome! I couldn't believe it was sitting

in the glass case (top shelf) with a sticker reading .99 lol. It was a little bit dirty but, I KNOW a Diamond in the rough when I see one.

I took the knife home and using a "Water Pik" cleaned out any debris. I also used "Rubbing Alcohol" to clean (along with Q-tips).

I made sure to completely dry off the (inside and outside) the Knife. I then took "Coconut Oil" and went "Mid Evil" applying the oil.

Man, it turned out beautifully! I will take the knife to a shop here in Maine who's owner use to work for SAK. I will ask to person

to correct the flaws (from minor abuse) in the large blade. Tis' all that's needed! Wow! What a sweet looking lil' knife!

Hi HnS,

Yea, I too was thinking along those lines. That being said, I much rather have a "usable/sharp" knife regardless weather or not it's a (so called) collectable or not.

It's collectable but not rare. A good example with the old cross as shown in the OP will go for upwards of $50 on the Bay. Good find!

guess i need to stop by my local shop.
I've got a bunch of stuff to drop off anyways

nice fine

I wonder if it's " collectable "or simply "desirable " ?

One people want to have a good example of in their collection and the other is just a good usable knife that people want in their pocket.

Hi all,

Well, just a short time ago, I took my (Circa 1957 to ?) Swiss Army Victorinox Alox Pioneer knife to Casco Bay Cutlery & Kitchenware
(formally Freeport Knives) and the Store's owner Doug Dillman (who is pretty much an expert/authority on SAK) repair the main blade.
Doug couldn't get over that I paid .99 for the knife lol. Doug did a VERY nice job of grinding/repairing making a new tip for the blade
(as the very TIP of the blade with was missing). I'm far from a Knife expert but, I doubt I would of even know the blade's tip had been
just repaired as it looks great! That being said, while the blade is NOT pristine (no Safe Queen here) with minor nicks, it is perfectly usable!
So, yea, this SAK is going to be a USER for sure!

Since all SAKs are "good usable knives that people want in their pocket," then what we have been talkung about is the knife's scarcity/collectibility.
