First off, this is my first emerson. I love the handle and blade shapes, I love how sturdy it feels, I really am not happy with how it feels to open and close. Very rough, almost sticky feeling. Is it just tightened too much at the pivot, will it wear in?

Has anyone thought about a scandi type grind on one of these?

Does anyone make a deep carru pocket clip for them?

Thanks

I'd also ask, for myself, what lube is best for the pivot point on emersons? My mini cqc-7 pivot screw is nice and tight, so there is zero blade play, but wouldn't mind improving the feel when opening-closing, but while not loosening the pivot screw. Thanks.

They usually do need a bit of time to wear in and smoothe out.
Most of mine were nice and smoothe after a week at most.

Tom Krein does some great regrinds if you want that sort of thing done.
Richard J is anther person who can help you out with that.

STR is your best bet for that

It's been my experience that Emersons get smoother with use.

I would loosen the pivot until there is blade play when the knife is open. Then, tighten slowly until there is no blade play when open. With use you will likely have to tighten the pivot again unless you use locktite; I find that Emerson's will eventually "settle in" to a point where the knife is smooth and there is no blade play when open.

Every EKI I have owned has been gritty to open. I always take them apart and clean them and then lube with a drop or two of Rem. oil or tetra. Put it all back together and good to go. Half the fun of EKI's is goofing around with them. keepem sharp

How is this knife in actual EDC or outdoor use?
I saw it in an article and it looks like a very nice, all-around utility knife.

On the Warranty insert that comes in the box with the knife, it used to read; "the knife needs to be broken in." Or something like that. Is that no longer stated?

I've been trying this one out at work for about two weeks now and for general utility uses it's been a real winner. I love the design because it's nice and clean, but feels powerful in the hand. Strong blade as you would expect from Emerson. As for the smoothness, after about a week, it gets much better and I have no complaints. Mine is the satin, plain edge version. Can't wait for the mini version of this knife.

As I was thinking, if I were to buy one, it would also be the plain-edge, satin-finished version. I too like the strong, basic design. IMO it's a beautiful knife.

I have one and love it. I had it pimped with a regrind by Krein and ti framelock by Ferrrk. Now it is one bad mother@$@%!%.
