Maybe my first question should be about the search function because I can't get it to work very often....most of the time it just gives me a blank screen and says "Done."

Aside from that, I have a Cocobola General on the way to me now and I'm wondering how many were made in this current bunch and if they are likely to be made again?

Also, I'm curious as to what year Buck quit using the 440C and which steels they have used since then on the normal production knives.

Thanks.

Hi Rocinante...
Glad it's not just me that has that happen in the search function here sometimes.

I don't know the count on the 120BR. Do know that it is a flat out beautiful knife.

As for the steels:

"...Pre 1961 knives were made from files of, I believe, 1095?
1961 Buck switched to forgings of 440C.
1967 they switched to using blanks of the same material.
1981 Buck switched to 425mod.
90's the switch was made to 420HC. (I really need to narrow that date down some! ) ..."

I copied Joe's homework from: http://bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1509615&postcount=[/B][/SIZE]2

I checked the computer and it looks like we have been making the 119BR since 1988 and have made many thousands so far. It really is a nice looking knife.
Goose, I'm telling the teacher on you for copying my homework. ;)

Thanks for that info Goose, I just added another page to my Buck history folder. BTW I think the search feature on BF will only search one word at a time, at least that has been my experience.

Joe, I was asking about the 120BR....not the 119.....which should make for a more interesting answer because I've been hearing that this 120BR run was a limited edition for just a short time.

Bumping this back up for Joe to answer......

Have a 120BR on the way to me in the mail and would like to know if possible how many were made on the latest run.

Thanks.

Roc,
I really need to pay more attention.
Your right, the answer is a lot more interesting for the 120br. It looks like there were about 500 made between 1990 and 1993. Then in 2005 we made a run of 50, followed by a run of 200 in 2006.
Only about 750 knives, thats a low production number for sure! :)

NFW?!?!?!? (That means "No Festus Way" for our younger readers)

I FINALLY have a relatively rare Buck?
2005 120BR.

No bolsters to huff n' puff.
No rivets to count.
Cool beans.

Thanks for the question and the answer gents...

I assume the one I have on the way in the mail is a 2006.

If it looks good I'm going to immediately order me another one.

:)

Well, I've never ordered from this place before, so I want to make sure it all works out before I invest more. When I actually have it in my hand I'll know for sure.

I may decide something else would suit me better.

Ok, Joe......now this is getting serious.

My cocabola general arrived today..... It has the stamp that looks like the state of Idaho....that would make it a 2005 (of which you said you made 50).

So how would I end up with one of the 50 in my hand today? Seems unlikely.

The number on the box is B120-SP3-0. That must be something different from the 120BR.....but what is it?

I smell a problem (one of those "too good to be true") purchases.

Please enlighten me.

Roc,
I dug a little deeper into the computer and found out that ALL 250 were ordered by the same company. It was an exclusive and had the part number B120-SP3-0 The company is in PA. They ordered the first 200 in sept/Oct.2005 and the last 50 in Oct. 2006. I'm not sure why the computer says we did 50 in 2005 in one spot and when I check in another spot, it says 200. But at least the total qty. produced is the same. The box end might have a manufacturing date on the label.
Either way, it looks legit.

Well, that's good to hear......thanks much for checking.

They are now selling like hotcakes on e-Bay also.

So how many were actually made in 2005 with the Idaho stamp?

Sounds like a good deal to me! I would take a 1 of 250 knife
No problems! HHmmm, did you get it from Buyknivesonline???

I did. It's a beauty.....not a flaw anywhere and sharp as a razor.

And Joe.....that date on the box is 09-07-05, so that checks out.

I'm so pleased to have one with the Idaho stamp on it and I hope my second one has it too!! (Much better than that sideways T that the 2006 knife has.)

Thanks again.

(Also....I'm gonna assume that 200 were made in '05 and 50 were made in '06 because they ordered the 50 in '06.)

My 120 box says "10-02-06" but the blade has a potato stamp.
B120-SP3-0
From that same buyknivesonline gig.
Now I'm bummin'. Thought I had something special.
