According to what I see online, the 301 and 371 are supposed to be 3 7/8 inches closed.
My 301 is 2015 vintage, the 371 (with G10 covers) is of 2014 vintage.

Presuming Buck lists the correct sizes on their website ... why are both my 301 and 371 exactly 4 inches closed?

I measured my 301 BCCI club knife, it's the newest I have and it is 3 7/8".

I used caliper and measured a 2010 Dymondwood and a 2012 Boone and Crockett and a 2008 371. All were under 4 inches at their longest point in length. None were 3 7/8 inches in length, the two Buck made ones were only 1/16 shorter than 4 in. The 371 was just over 3 7/8 by a hair.

I think this is just a "inexact" statement of length. Or just a no shorter than, considering the buffing of the ends. Maybe some folks are heavier handed on the buffing wheel.

If it is a real important issue for you I can measure a dozen or more recent ones, but not tonight....

"manufacturing tollerances" makes sense. No need to measure more of them.

Why is it important???
If one is off by 1/16 is it a deal breaker ?

new to owning buck. I wish the still made the larger stockman.
The only "deal breaker" I can think of would be a fully serrated blade. I loathe serrated blades.
