A 5 pin lockback mystery - Longmire's first knife?

Craig Johnson's character Walt Longmire is back in the 4th season of Longmire, now released on Netflix.

Fans of the show know that Walt carries a Buck 110. Except when he doesn't in the first season.

In one of the first episodes, he rolls his Bronco and cuts himself out of the seat belt with his knife.

The bolster looks like a Schrade LB7 but TAH, a careful member of the Buck sub-forum, notes that LB7s are typically 3 or 4 pin.

Any thoughts on what this knife is?

For fans of the 110, Walt uses a real 110 quite effectively in later episodes.

It looks like a 4 pin Schrade LB7. Note the flat 'shoulder' on the front bolsters. None of the other 5" lockbacks have this.

Yes, but look closely at the first picture. It has 5 pins, not 4!!

See, a mystery in a mystery show!! Brilliant.

Are you sure the dot near the cutout for lockback is a pin ? Could be speck of fluff, light artifact, piece of granola from lunch, etc.

The Bronco wreck is in the first episode. I'm watching it now. Thanks for the tip. I've never heard of "Longmire," and it looks like a cool show.

Knife content: I carried an LB7 for a few years, starting at about age 14. Great knife.

In that top picture posted it for sure looks like 5 pins to me. Too well placed to be something else I think.

I believe it is a stunt knife. :D

They did not want the knife, or the owner of it didn't want, it damaged. So, they put in a cheaper carnival sold type knife to take the hit.

They are just taking care of it and not wanting to abuse the original.

That's my guess. :D

As I suspected, cheap prop knife, finally found a pic.....

That 5 pin has a different frame from the movie knife. Look at the shape of the front bolster.
Schrade is the only LB folder of this style that has the 'flat' part in the bolster that i know of.

I was just looking at the pins but will say this, the knives from Pakistan are almost always copies of western models and over the years the import models probably changed styles from Buck to Schrade to ??? in order to offer different models.

Just a theory based on Pakistani models that were copies of Shrades that my Dad bought and gave away to employees as work knives in the 80's.

These look like the ones my dad bought and I still have one someplace.......complete with the purple scales.

That large 5-pin lockback^ looks like a 100% knock-off of a KA-BAR 1189/1199 folder (I have an 1199); see reference pic below. Note the square-cut jimping on the spine of the blade, which I've never seen on any other brand, but is unique to the KA-BAR. The large & deep nail-nick forward of the hump in the blade's clipped spine is also identical to the KA-BAR. The KA-BAR also has an identical 5-pin arrangement on the handle.

The knife pictured in the OP looks smaller to me, sort of Buck 112-sized, and not as big as the LB7 or other 110-style knives. The front bolster does look Schrade to me, as previously mentioned.

Continuity error.... Season 3 Episode 9 "Counting Coup". (Spoiler Alert)

Pakistan 5 pin lockback becomes a 4 pin Buck 110 config in prop knife. Looks solid too...no folding slot opening.

Man I love this show!

I love the show too, but I think the episodes don't last long enough and I much prefer read the adventures. I think a Moore Maker would not be irrelevant.

Me again. I just finished "As the Crows flies", it is clear that W Longmires' knigfe is a Case. The name is mentioned twice.

Great bump, Jolipapa (not sure how I missed this thread when it started ). I've completely forgotten that I have the 4th season in full ready to watch, the slight delay in transitioning from A&E to Netflix really threw me off. I've been told that the seasons are rather self-contained just like the books are (with the obvious overlaps from every series with a recurring central character).

This may be one of the times where I circle back after watching a movie or show and read the books afterwards. Season 4 was slated to be the final one and I'm not going to go look to confirm for fear of spoiling the show for myself. :D
