the colts wide reciever marvin harrison was involved in a shooting this week using what ESPN is calling a ".50 calibre beligian made custom pistol", i know this is ESPN and all and they might not be describing it correctly but WTF are they talking about lol, anyone have any idea? maybe a hi-power w/a .50AE bbl lol (i doubt that) or maybe a cutomised desert eagle??

he has a concealed carry license they say, an odd pistol to edc imho whatever it is.

thanks

Maybe the FN 5.7, it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch for a stupid reporter to misinterpret 5.7 into .50 caliber, and it's Belgian...

Possibly a S&W 500 or a Desert Eagle...both are the kind of thing a pro football player would want to flash (status symbol, culture, etc)

The smiths are American. Magnum research has the desert eagle manufactured by IMI in Isreal as far as I know, despite it being an american company. I'm not sure where their BFR line is made but I would guess either in the USA or by IMI as well. I can't think of any other real players in the .50 handgun market at the moment.

The 5.7 seems like a pretty good guess, given how stupid the media is about firearms (among lots of other things). The funny thing about that is that while it is a belgian company, I'm pretty sure the gun itself is built in virginia along with most of their other guns.

I know you started this based on the 5.7 vs 50 cal handgun discussion....but just to address that Marvin Harrison being involved or not, he owns several business near which the injuries took place. His agent says that Marvin is not the target of the police investigation of the incident and that Marvin was not involved in any shooting.

According to the local paper and contrary to some erroneous internet reports, Harrison was not involved in the incident. He was one of several people questioned.

The Colts management and ownership are known to be pretty intolerant of anything that even hints of anything that might tarnish the reputation of the organization and its members.
Coach Dungy doesn't even expect to hear any cussing by the team members.
Yeah I'm biased. They are "our" Indianapolis Colts!

The media gets things wrong not of ignorance but for the shock factor they can use to sell the papers or raise their ratings. I am willing to bet dollars against donuts the type and caliber of gun was reported but they know just mentioning "50 Caliber" really fires up the left. They also know that calling it a "50 Caliber" has much more shock value. In the article linked above you will see they are now saying it shoots armor piercing ammo...well shucks...so will every other gun made....providing you can locate and then import the ammo. Of course most any rifle will defeat the majority of body armor....lol The whole armor piercing ammo myth was put to bed years ago, I am sort of surprised to see it trotted back out but then it is an election year.

we'll just have to wait and see how it all turns out, they are saying it was his pistol involved in the shooting, they say in philly if your pistol is involved in a crime you can be charged with a crime for making the pistol available for use, of course ESPN could be wrong on that also.

as far as the colts being intolerant of anyone tarninishing there rep i imagine they will be more tolerant of harrison, one of the premier wideouts in the game, than some walk on linebacker or something, they really need him to have a good year, if they intend to compete for a championship anyway,

the media can sure get things confused though, lol, a 5.7 is a long ways from a .50 lol.

kudos to markksr, for figuring out WTF they were speaking of, had me stumped i was thinking ".50" not 5.7 lol.

and again, imho an odd choice for a edc handgun, i would honestly prefer something like a glock 19 myself,

But you have an informed opinion. If he did not and asked what was the best, an unscrupleous salesman would sell him the highest margin gun he could, with the highest margin ammo, and other equipment. A rich person who doesn't know guns could easily be shown how his new gun is better because it holds more bullets, etc. and be charged a few grand, ka -ching :(

Or he could have seen all the "cop killer/it goes through bullet proof vests" hoopla that the Anti's spewed all over the news when the FN 5.7 was first released and decided he wanted one...

.50 caliber sounds a lot better than a .23 caliber when you are trying to sell a story.

The story did say it was "his" gun, but I don't know if it means it is his actual gun or one of the same type.

Hopefully, the whole story will come out and he was not involved, but I'm almost always disappointed when I try to think the best.

They ought to run some of this stuff by a firearms expert before broadcasting. The other day I saw an episode of "San Francisco SWAT" in which the narrator mentioned that the bad guy had a "45mm handgun". Now that would make a 50 AE or 500 S&W seem pretty tame in comparison!

I thought I had read that a gun similar to his was used for the shooting, I doubt there are too many people totting around 5.7's on the street seems like a really strange coincidence here.

they ran tests on empty cases found at the scene and it was harrisons gun FWIW, & this is from the philly PD not ESPN.

Those types of dishonest tactics certainly worked on the idiots out here in California. Our "Republican" :p :D  governor even signed the stupid legislation. :thumbdn:
