So I traded off my 710 recently. I wanna get another and I have a dilemma. I like the stock model's handle but I wouldn't mind that slight recurved blade to be made of M390 either. Not sure which to go with, hmm...

IIRC, I have your 710. I liked it well enough that I also picked up the KW exclusive. I have to say that from pictures I wasn't totally sold on the handles on the exclusive, but after having it in-hand I have to say that for me it's head and shoulders above the stock handle. And I really appreciate the improved corrosion resistance of the M390. I recommend spending up for the KW edition.

Aesthetically I just don't dig them (in photos at least). What do you like better about them?

The chamfered edges fit my hand more comfortably, and the scalloped pattern adds a nice amount of grip right where your fingers wrap around the edges. But the raised area of the handle is smooth (not slippery), so the knife slides in and out of your pocket easier than the knurled G10 on the stock 710.

I was right where you are at with aesthetics. But I found it to be a lot more attractive in real life than in pics. However, the one I received has blue G10 in the center, where most of the pics I saw have black in the center. I do prefer the "bluer" scales on mine. But the design also just grew on me and I now appreciate the uniqueness of it. YMMV.

I say go for the M390.
You can always get custom scales or modify the factory scales.
I know it's not everyones cup of tea, but I love a 710 with "Holy" scales.
In fact, I recently got the same exact knife and I plan on coverting my B&B scales into a stepped "Holy" version.

IMHO the M 390 steel out performs both the D-2 and the ATS-34. Throw in a Holy handle from Keyman, and you've got yourself a real tool.

I'm here just to say that I love 710 threads :D

Get a KW m390 and some scales from Keyman. You'll have a thin, light, cutting machine for life!

I found them slippery. I think the best M390s are the numbered 710-1 and the no-number 710-2 [or was it the -3?...senility is a bitch...]

BMC I have had the M390 710 (still do) and two CPS M4 710s, which I released. One in a trade, one as a gift.

The M390 in even the regular handle is a great knife. The rounded spine of the blade sets it apart, no corrosion issues like M4 and the action opening and closing is very smooth. It holds a great edge, too.

If you get either one I think you'll really like it. To me it is the Flagship of the Benchmade line.
