Hi all,

I have to go soon to the USA.
I'll go to NYC, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Do you think I can take a balisong in my luggages ???

mmmmmmmmmmmmm, that's a toughy, I'm not sure if that falls under the "importation of balisongs" or not. I've never been outside of the country so I don't know a whole lot about customs and how it all works.

I'm not sure, but that sounds pretty risky. I've carried a BB Gun to and from Taiwan and Hawaii before without any troubles, but I'm not sure how it works in the Philipines. If you do decide to bring some balis, make sure you only bring one or two, and don't forget to take them off of you before leaving for the airport =).

Anyone know if there is a penalty for being caught bringing in a balis? Fine?

Your friend and countryman Fred Perrin had to borrow one of mine in Atlanta because customs confiscated his as he entered the country.

Customs is spotty at best, but bringing one into the US is definitely a risk.

My advice would be to buy a Benchmade 42 from 1sks and have Mike ship it to your first contact in NYC. He could even overnight it to your hotel in NYC so that it would be there when you check in. You might call the hotel a day or two before hand and allert them that you are expecting a package. Also, have Mike add "Guest arriving (date)" to the address so that the hotel staff knows what to do with the package.

You will have no trouble taking your 42 home with you.

Is customs very good at catching balisongs/switchblades that are imported? (of course the first time you try it they catch you and take all of your balis!)

I wouldn't worry about it at all. You aren't importing it, you are exporting it. There is no law(that I know of) that says you can't export one. There is however, laws about having a balisong in NYC and L.A.(correct me if I'm wrong). Good luck to you.
