A Basic Direction

The time has come to make a knife. I've got a fixed blade design that's 100% unique taking no ques from any other design (very pointy long/thin blade with raised/serrated thumb ramp and two finger grooves in the handle with a gentle concave curve from the second notch to the end). It'll be small/medium in size and I'll send it out once done for an IWB kydex sheath.
Is it feasible to proceed with only hand tools and if so what do you recommend for saws, files and vise? I guess that I'll have it heat treated at a local place that I'll find in the Yellow Pages (unless recommended otherwise). And I'd like to use canvas micarta for the handle material (source of canvas micarta?).
Just a basic direction would be tremendous and then I'll post once done. I promise to not go into the knife business, but maybe I can salvage my two years as a mechanical engineering student before having switched majors.

Nice. "How to Make Knives" is on order and I've found the tools from the noted sites. The paper model is made and I'll probably make a scale clay model to make sure that the dimensions are perfect before clamping down. I'll hopefully post in a few months.

Howdy Ankle,

You NEED the Loveless book "How to Make Knives" there is an excellent chapter on making a knife with hand tools.
