A Becker Folder?

I agree. It would sell like crazy but its not something Kabar is interested in doing. A lot of people have had the same idea. I suggested this when I was new. Maybe they will change their minds one of these days.

a dream within a dream

it's been something on the drawing board for years and years now...

there's even a few semi-hemi-demi prototypes of sorts floating around

but ... there's some issues. notably "who will OEM it" - KaBar is BUSY BUSY BUSY... there's investments, and money, and materials, and ... complicated!

maybe someday. not this year. or next. or ... someday...

Great idea!!

A bk11/14 size folder for EDC.

And why not a bk16/17 folder?
Would be about the same size as my CRKT M21-04? It would be a great backup blade to stash in your pack!

I would buy a couple for sure.

As much as it would be cool.....I feel.....the trend folders are following these days (all high-end and crap)...what with the Titanium this, G10 that......SV30 or D2 whatever.......the knife would be a zillion dollars.....

Not that Kabar/BK&T would do this too.....but, I mean, look at ZT and Grayman.....nice stuff but the prices are completely outrageous!!!!!

ain't gunna happen :>

best go buy a Hogue or a Spyderco or a KaBar series knife... the zombies one are nice :)

Ethan -- How about little more informative post than "Sigh......" Does that sigh mean you'd rather not be asked about it, or does the sigh mean you you wish KA-BAR had enough production capacity to make a folder that you've designed, or is it the sigh of a designer who has the sparkle of a folder design idea in his eye? Pray tell, sir........

The suggestion of a Becker Folder: A rite of passage within the Becker subforum :)

I did it too when I was new.

There was mention of a hi-end folder from Ka-Bar but the actual retail would have been like $300 so that's pretty much dead.

There are some great folders out there for every price range so you'll just have to settle for another brand. Kershaw is one of my favs.

Sigh......

Ethan

You know...if it had some Swedish steel like 13C27 or 14C28N, a liner lock, and G10 or or even GFN scales, I think this could really have a good price. Of course people like high end steels, but look at 1095(cv), it isn't as new as CPM-3v, but it is an excellent steel. I love the Swedish steels too. Kershaw has done well using a similar combination of materials. there is a lot of other behind the scene stuff that most of us don't know about, so those would also be factors...

Can't be upset that we love your knives so much! :)

just go buy a Sebenza already :)

look at the Hogues :) G10. high end steel. $140 street give or take. y'all whine when a Becker is over $100 ;)

or take a look at some of the Kershaws - some of their knives are wondrous. the prices are hard to believe as they SHOULD be higher, but they're not. can't imagine they'd get lower though. i'm thinking the Tyrade, specifically. wondrous.

so, the best way to make price point is to not make it in the USA. "that won't happen". so.

$200+ knife ;) y'all would whine ;D a few would buy, but would enough?

though, a lot of you DO buy other brand expensive knives and don't seem to whine. why is that? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Hmmm where is that pic of the Becker folder??? Tooj posted it. Awesome knife just Ka-Bar cant seem to get it made in USA and at a reasonable price point.

I think the pictures speak for themselves!

^ Nice! Just needs a thumb hole.

Sorry Ethan if I brought up a sore subject. I love my Beckers, and wish I could carry more!

If I may offer my humble, perhaps ignorant opinion: Becker knives excel in large part because they are so darned tough; they are intentionally overbuilt, and offer a great value for someone who really wants to put their knives to hard use. A Becker folder, by its very nature, could not be as resilient--strong for a folder, perhaps, but not like the normal Becker offerings. I think the Becker line would be better served by sticking to its forte, doing what it does best, and leaving the folders to others.

Hopefully I won't be banned from this forum for saying so.... :D
