I love the trailing point blade on the 5 and the new 15. I also love the 14/Eskabar. I don't own either yet because I am just about starting my collection. And they get pretty expensive what with international shipping and customs. So I am saving up for an Eskabar and a Lansky Deluxe sharpening system because I have screwed up my Kershaw Scamp with the stone.

But what I'd love see is the Izula handle as applied on the Eskabar and a smaller 3-3.5 inch blade in the trailing point style. Maybe a longer OAL if they retain that very functional looking choil.
Sort of a Magnum Camp Necker. Haven't drawn it out or anything but the picture in my head is very appealing.

What say?

I know there's someone face palming and muttering "idiot!" but I think it would be awesome.

Yes, yes, yes. I've said the same thing before. I would love to see a knife like that get made.

Edit: I dug up my post.

I think it would be very cool to see a small trailing point blade on the 14 handle. I saw a little trailing point knife at a knife show this weekend. It looked like it would have made a great neck knife. Until I picked it up and saw that the blade stock was 1/2" thick in the handle!

Looking good. I think with that handle design you could probably do away with the choil though. You could get a bit more blade length out of it that way.

Glad to see I am not the only one. I hope that more knowledgeable and influential people than me promote this idea.
To get a lil facebooky, enough "likes" or any kind of positive vote may make Mr.Becker take notice :D
We live in hope.............

I like the idea, but I think I need to see how a 3-3.5" trailing point would work.... It would be one hell of a backpacking steak knife, but I don't know if the shape would lend itself to the size of the knife, and the choil would eliminate the greatest advantage of neckers, the belly.

Also, would the handle be canted like on the EsKaBar/Izula, or level with the spine of the blade like other trailing points?

AGree with both of you that the choil may be redundant. I expect the handle cant (if I am using that correctly) would not be necessary as the blade curves upward slightly. Thought something like the Schrade Sharpfinger pulls it off nicely. Its more of a downward cant to the blade rather than for the handle if that makes any sense. Or just leave it as it is. It seems to look fine in my "composite" picture ;)

Another thing that would probably go is the swedge because the blade thickness would probably go down. 3/16ths is what I suggest with distal taper starting about half an inch behind the point with flat top and the gimping retained.

oXide, I dare say it would do everything a 11 or 14 could.

wealljuggleknives on youtube and someone over here said its very close to a Hissatsu or an original Japanese tanto tip design.
I wouldn't want to see the blade width reduce much in comparison to the 14.
Just saying maybe we can think of it as "tanto-ish" instead of traditional trailing point.

Beautiful!! I'd keep the blade wide a lot closer to the point. Better belly?
And flat top as I mentioned.
I never expected this to be a completely original thought and neither is what I am going to say. It came to me now but consider it an emphatic endorsement of the idea itself.
I don't know if I am authorized to do this or even if this is the correct section for it, but we need a campaign. Mr. Becker seems quite active here; how would I start a thread where members could simply click on a "Yes Please!" button and convince him that there are enough of us who would pay Eskabar money at least for it. What say?
Theres a picture of it somewhere, google "bladeforums magnum necker" It was posted in the "design your own becker" thread. What your talking about is a magnum camp with an izula handle right? Like this? http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/800585-Becker-Knife-Ideas/page16

That would make an awesome hunting/fishing companion. Also, like oxide mentioned a pack "eatin' tool..

I think the 11 handle looks ok with the trailing point, but as much as I prefer the 11 over the 14, as far as looks go, haven't handled either yet, the Izula handle looks a lot better with the trailing point.

Going to do that today. :)
And as I said, I provided the 11 handle option in case commercial understandings limit the use of the Izula handle.
I realized later that it would smply look like a smaller 15 without the scales.
You could always start a poll thread. That last one is alright, but I really prefer the Izula handle.
